Richard is a current super lightweight world champion in Muay Thai or thai boxing as it is commonly known. He is a semi-professional fighter alongside running his full-time gym, AKA, and a personal trainer.
Martial arts have played an important part in his life from a young age having competed in Judo at county level and hold his Black belt 1st Dan. Having begun training for fun as a teenager, he first entered the ring in 1999 and has never looked back. Muay Thai has taken him over the world, competing in 6 countries and living in Thailand and Australia.
Richard began working with life-performance coach Gill Harvey-Bush in 2005 leading up to winning his first world title by knockout. This was a re-match against an Australian fighter whom earlier in the year he had previously lost to whilst living in Australia. Since then, he has added a further 5 titles to his collection, cementing himself as a technical and skilled Muay Thai fighter.
Since establishing AKA Gym in 2005, Richard also has begun producing fighters, although at present this at a very small level, due to him still competing internationally. 2009 plans to be an even bigger year for Richard, with goals of competing further abroad against the world’s top-rated fighters in what has to be the most competitive weight class in Muay Thai.
